Ian grew up in a small town on the north coast of Northern Ireland, playing much of his early golf at Portstewart Golf Club and later at Royal Portrush Golf Club where he still holds membership. The youngest of three boys, Ian grew up in an all-golfing family and spent many hours on the range at Portstewart as a kid. His father John held almost every position at the club during his childhood, in addition to being the Tournament Director for the Causeway Coast Amateur Golf Tournament which for some time was named the largest golf event in Europe. His fathers’ efforts were eventually noted by the Queen of England with the awarding of an MBE for his efforts towards the promotion of amateur golf and the growth of tourism in Northern Ireland. After graduating with a BA in Retail and Distribution Management from the University of Ulster, Ian worked briefly in the Golf Tour industry in Scotland before coming to America to become a professional golfer. After serving his apprenticeship at a few clubs in upstate New York, he took the 1st Assistant Professional position at Redding CC, CT where he served the membership for four years before accepting the Head Golf Professional position at Hidden Creek Golf Club, NJ. Ian worked a total of nine years at Hidden Creek, the last five as the General Manager & Head Professional before accepting the position at Huntingdon Valley January 1, 2011. Ian currently serves his association as the Honorary President of the Philadelphia PGA and has been an invited speaker and facilitator at several PGA Educational Seminars and Conferences over the years. In 2014 he was voted by his peers as the Golf Professional of the Year for the Philadelphia Section PGA. His career in golf is supported and made possible by a loving family at home - Michele, his wife, and two wonderful boys in Tyler and Reese.
