HVCC's Championship GAP History

It's springtime, which means that one of Philadelphia's favorite golf traditions is underway: the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) Team Matches.  Contested annually since 1897, the GAP Team Matches are the largest interclub golf competition in the world.  This past Sunday alone, nearly 5,000 players on over 400 teams from 175 GAP clubs competed against one another for fun, for camaraderie, and for the chance to bring home a championship for their club.

Huntingdon Valley is looking to defend its 2023 GAP Team Matches championship title, the latest of its record 34 HVCC victories in the event (the next closest club, Old York Road, has 8 wins).  Founded in 1897 and joining GAP as its fifth member club, Huntingdon Valley won its first GAP Team Match title in 1898, and the event has been a fixture on our members' golf calendars ever since.
